MAKING ACCIDENT INSURANCE CLAIMS EASY

When a person has an accident, ideally, the first thing he should do is call his insurance company. However, this is not always possible. He may be maimed and hurt, unconscious, dead, or in the very least – in shock. It is a very natural and a human reaction to go into shock – not everybody have the capability of automatically reaching for his phone in his hidden, accident immune pocket, sift through the numbers and then call the agent to make his accident insurance claim. But the problem is that when the insurance company does arrive at the scene, it is hard to distinguish how the accident really happened. Thus, it takes weeks of paperwork before you can finally receive your compensation.

Some precautions

By taking some simple precautions, we can ensure that our accident insurance claims gets processed quickly and easily, and it does not take weeks of shuffling through paperwork and court cases to decide who really caused the accident, and then finally receive the money. The most important thing to do is when you make an insurance policy, ensure that you have gone through – and understood every little detail of the little brochure they give you. Setting the insurance company’s number on your speed dial would be a good idea, even if it means having to chuck out the number of your favourite nail parlour or pizza place from the speed dial list. If possible, record the conversations you had with the insurance company on paper or in any other way while making the insurance policy. Also, at the accident site, if it involves another vehicle or person, try to get the licence plate of the vehicle and the insurance details of the person if it is possible. Don’t try to lie to the insurance investigators – if you were out doing something you weren’t supposed to be, you don’t have to tell them as long as it has no relation to the accident. But lying is definitely out of the question.

The procedure

Generally, in case of accident insurance claims, when the accident is reported to the insurance company, they will assign an agent who will look through your claim. If your claim is minor, he will just ask you to fill out some minor paperwork. If however, the accident is not very straightforward, and appears to be complicated, the agent will try finding out the cause of the accident. Depending on his findings, he will make a report and send you an offer. The offer may be a part of, full or none of the expenses you incurred. You can negotiate if in case the amount offered does not satisfy you – but please ensure that you are being reasonable. You can seek advice from an attorney or online in case you don’t know how much to claim.
